A number of hospital Trusts and charities from across the area submitted successful bids to the 2019/2020 patient education bursary scheme and are now in the process of delivering or developing the detail of their projects.

Collaborative video project

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust; Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust; Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust; Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust and the Yorkshire Cancer Community have joined forces to commission a series videos to be shared for use across the Cancer Alliance area.

To include site specific films (breast, colorectal, lung, prostate, skin) - introduction to types of treatment; managing short- and long-term consequences of treatment; signs and symptoms of recurrence; how and when to reaccess services; locally available support services/health and wellbeing support. Also under consideration are films focusing on psychological support/wellbeing; physical activity; managing fatigue.

Train The Trainer

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust: funding for a 'Train the Trainer' session for Cancer Care Co-ordinators, volunteers and hospice staff to facilitate health and wellbeing programme delivery. Expanding from five to 10/15 trainers.

Accessible Cancer App

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust: digital platform in the form of an accessible cancer app, providing access to pre-habilitation and personalised care plans; virtual appointments, information on local services.

Delivery of six health and wellbeing sessions for patients of Airedale Hospital, delivered by Cancer Support Yorkshire

Skin Cancer Advice And Support

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust: Interactive IT platform and podcast, including diagnosis information, sun safety guidelines, skin and lymph node checks, how to access and re-access services. Generic advice, support services, insurance advice, financial advice, cosmetic concerns, also public waiting room displays.

In September 2021. the project was a Finalist and Commended in the Quality In Care (QIC) Awards in association with Dermatology In Practice, in the category of Dermatology Education Programmes for People with Skin Conditions and/or their Families and Carers
